What is Awario Bot?

Awario Bot is the family entry for two crawlers used by Awario's social-listening service. AwarioSmartBot collects public web pages, while AwarioRssBot handles feeds. Awario customers search the collected material for brands and other tracked terms.

The published user-agent form contains AwarioBot/1.0 followed by the more specific AwarioSmartBot/1.0 or AwarioRssBot/1.0 identity. Awario advises site owners to use the complete user agent rather than an IP allowlist because its crawlers do not come from consecutive IP blocks.

Awario documents no more than one request every three seconds and says the crawlers slow down when robots.txt specifies a longer crawl delay. A visit usually means the page has not been collected before or Awario needs to refresh its copy. The web crawler and feed crawler can therefore show different request patterns.

The resulting index supports mention monitoring. Awario does not describe it as model-training data or an AI answer index. Blocking the crawlers can reduce what Awario users see about a public mention, but it has no documented effect on visibility in AI search.

Not relevant for AI search

Is Awario Bot relevant for AI search?

No. Awario Bot is not part of AI search or training, so allowing or blocking it does not change your AI visibility.

Awario Bot runs synthetic monitoring or uptime checks on a schedule. It is not collecting content for any index or model, so it has no bearing on search rankings or AI answers. You usually see it because your own team or a service you use set up a check.

How to handle Awario Bot

Allow the relevant crawler when you want public pages or feeds included in Awario's mention monitoring. To opt out, use the two tokens Awario publishes:

User-agent: AwarioRssBot
User-agent: AwarioSmartBot
Disallow: /

Awario explicitly says both crawlers obey robots.txt. You can disallow only selected paths or set Crawl-delay: 10 for slower collection without blocking the whole site. The rule changes Awario's access; it does not remove material that remains public elsewhere. Teams that use Awario themselves should expect narrower mention coverage after a block.

Examples

  • A public article names a brand tracked by an Awario customer. `AwarioSmartBot/1.0` collects the page so the mention can appear in Awario.
  • A publisher wants fewer requests but still uses Awario alerts, so it sets a ten-second crawl delay for both published crawler tokens.
