What is GTmetrix?
A GTmetrix request begins with somebody choosing a page to test. The service launches a clean browser from the selected test location, loads the URL, and evaluates what happened with Lighthouse and its own audits. On-demand tests, scheduled monitors, and API jobs all use this basic browser workflow.
Because GTmetrix renders the page, one test can request the HTML and every asset needed for that load. In logs this usually looks like a compact burst rather than a crawler moving from link to link. A scheduled monitor produces similar bursts whenever its configured test runs.
The default user agent follows the chosen browser or simulated device and appends GTmetrix. That marker is optional. Any user can anonymize the header, and a PRO user can replace it with a custom value. GTmetrix publishes the current server addresses for each test location, which is more useful than relying on an old fixed browser string.
GTmetrix measures page performance and returns the report to the person or system that requested it. It does not build a public search index, determine AI-search citations, or collect a documented language-model training corpus. Blocking it interrupts tests and alerts, not the page's search eligibility.
