What is UsercentricsBot?

UsercentricsBot is the web client used by the Usercentrics Data Processing Service Scanner. A site owner starts a scan to find active services and tracking technologies that may need consent. The results help the owner compare what the website loads with the services configured in the Usercentrics CMP.

Usercentrics also describes regular monitoring after the initial setup. Those scheduled visits can produce visible traffic spikes in analytics tools such as GA4. A scan result may reveal a service that was added directly or loaded through another technology, but the site owner still decides how it should be represented in the consent configuration.

Requests include Usercentricsbot/1.0 within a longer browser user agent. Usercentrics recommends matching that substring because the rest of the string can change. It also publishes the scanner's current address pool, while warning that the list can change in the future.

The scanner is a consent-management aid, not an AI crawler. Letting it read a page can improve the customer's view of tracking technologies on that site, but it has no documented effect on AI search results or model training. Blocking it may make a compliance scan incomplete.

Not relevant for AI search

Is UsercentricsBot relevant for AI search?

No. UsercentricsBot is not part of AI search or training, so allowing or blocking it does not change your AI visibility.

UsercentricsBot collects data about pages for analysis and reports. The data describes your site rather than promoting it, and nothing it gathers goes into a search index or an AI model.

How to handle UsercentricsBot

For a site using the DPS Scanner, allow requests containing Usercentricsbot/1.0 and consult the current Usercentrics address list when the WAF also requires network rules. Classify those visits as scanner traffic so they do not inflate reports intended to count people.

The metadata provides a stable token and marks robots.txt support:

User-agent: UsercentricsBot
Disallow: /

Usercentrics' current support material explains user-agent and IP allowlisting, not robots parsing. The supplied Cloudflare record also marks the crawler as non-following, so dependable compliance with the snippet is unresolved. Confirm behavior in logs and use the server or WAF for an enforceable block. Before blocking a configured scan, tell the consent or privacy owner that its findings may be incomplete.

Examples

  • After a new marketing tag is deployed, the next DPS scan finds a service that the site's consent setup does not yet list.
  • An analytics administrator classifies the published scanner addresses as internal traffic so a scheduled Usercentrics scan no longer appears as a burst of visitors.
