What is Barkrowler?
A Barkrowler request to an old 404 URL is not necessarily accidental. Babbar says the bot revisits missing and redirecting pages because either response may reflect a temporary condition. This can produce recurring traffic to paths that no longer appear in the site's navigation.
Those status checks are part of Barkrowler's work on Babbar's graph of the web. Babbar uses that graph and the metrics calculated from it in SEO and online-marketing tools. Its crawler page says the service mainly retains links and page metadata rather than storing the fetched page content.
Barkrowler has no documented role in AI answers or model training. Allowing it can affect how a site's links and page metadata are represented in Babbar's SEO graph. It does not make a page eligible for citation by a general AI assistant.
The documented crawler identifies as Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; Barkrowler/0.9; +https://babbar.tech/crawler). Babbar's crawler page says it follows both robots.txt and crawl-delay rules, usually waiting 2.5 or 5 seconds between requests. It also publishes babbar.eu as the reverse-DNS suffix for its crawler hosts.
