What is iAskBot?
iAskBot is the crawler associated with iAsk.ai, an AI question-answering search engine. It collects and indexes web content so iAsk can retrieve information when someone submits a natural-language question. The operator is listed as iAsk.
iAsk's explanation of its search system says it uses transformer models to interpret a query, then compares that query with an index of webpages represented numerically. iAskBot supplies web content to the indexing side of that process. It is therefore both a search-engine crawler and part of an AI answer product.
A request from iAskBot means a page is being fetched for possible indexing. Accessibility can make the page available to iAsk's retrieval system, but it does not guarantee that the page will rank for a query, appear in a generated answer, or receive a citation. Those outcomes depend on iAsk's own retrieval and response logic.
The stable token is iAskBot, and the bot is recorded as respecting robots.txt. Publishers can use one group to allow it, block selected paths, or disallow the entire site. That gives sites a direct way to decide whether their pages should be crawled for iAsk's index.
Identity is less certain than control. This directory marks iAskBot as unverifiable, supplies no Cloudflare bot record, and includes neither verified IP ranges nor Web Bot Auth keys. A client can copy the user-agent token, so logs containing iAskBot show a claimed identity rather than authenticated origin.
The documented purpose is AI search indexing. The available iAsk material does not state that iAskBot's crawl is also used to train a model. A robots.txt block limits this crawler's access to the search index; it should not be described as a verified, system-wide training opt-out.
