What is Pingdom Bot?
Pingdom sends uptime checks from external probe servers to a URL or service selected by its customer. The probes rotate within the chosen region and test the target at the configured interval. Their job is to report whether the endpoint can be reached from outside the customer's own network.
A first failure does not immediately become recorded downtime. Pingdom asks a second probe in another location to repeat the connection, then confirms the outage only if that request also fails. This second-opinion process explains paired requests from different addresses around the start of an incident.
Pingdom adds a user-agent header to HTTP checks. Official troubleshooting examples contain Pingdom.com_bot, while current check tooling allows a customer to supply a custom value. The familiar token is useful for classifying default traffic, but its absence does not rule out Pingdom and its presence does not verify the source.
These probes measure uptime and response behavior. Pingdom does not document them as web-indexing agents, AI retrieval clients, or model-training collectors. They can change an uptime report and trigger an alert, but they do not improve or reduce AI search coverage.
