What is Quantcastbot?

Quantcastbot does two different kinds of work for Quantcast. It tests advertisements and their destination pages for quality assurance, and it reads page content for Quantcast's Interest-Based Audience technology. The difference matters because the two modes do not follow the same crawl rules.

For quality assurance, the bot follows the click-through link in an advertisement and opens only that landing page. Quantcast repeats checks while an ad is being delivered, and a test can fire impression or click trackers. Those events are non-human traffic and should be removed from campaign and analytics counts. Quantcast says this mode does not obey robots.txt because the crawler is following an ad.

The audience mode samples 2 to 5 million sites per day. It extracts page titles, descriptions, headings, and paragraph text, then uses that material to categorize interests for advertising. Quantcast limits this crawl to roughly 1,000 URLs per domain each day, spread over several hours, and honors URL or domain disallows in robots.txt.

Both uses belong to advertising. Quantcast does not present the bot as an AI answer indexer or a model-training collector. Its practical effects are ad review, audience categorization, and extra tracker calls that need filtering. It does not confer visibility in AI search.

Not relevant for AI search

Is Quantcastbot relevant for AI search?

No. Quantcastbot is not part of AI search or training, so allowing or blocking it does not change your AI visibility.

Quantcastbot fetches pages for ad review, placement verification, or targeting. It does not influence search rankings or AI answers; it only matters for whether ads on that platform run and what they cost.

How to handle Quantcastbot

Use this rule when you want to stop the Interest-Based Audience content crawl:

User-agent: Quantcastbot
Disallow: /

The same stanza will not stop quality-assurance visits to landing pages named in Quantcast ads. If you advertise through Quantcast, keep those destinations accessible so the platform can inspect them. Mark the resulting requests and tracker calls as bot activity rather than customer traffic.

For an enforcement rule at the CDN or firewall, compare the source with the current address list on Quantcast's official bot page. The user-agent string can be forged, and the published list can change.

Examples

  • An ad team finds several Quantcastbot hits and matching tracker calls for one active creative, then removes them from click and impression reporting.
  • A publisher blocks `/members/` from the audience crawl while leaving a public campaign destination available for Quantcast's repeated quality checks.
