What is LinkedInBot?

A LinkedInBot request is part of LinkedIn's sharing workflow. When someone adds a URL to a LinkedIn post, message, or article, LinkedIn fetches the page so it can render a title, image, and other preview information beside the link.

LinkedIn's publishing guidance asks sites to expose Open Graph metadata and make the selected image publicly reachable. Preview data can be cached, which is why a corrected title or image may not appear immediately. LinkedIn's Post Inspector can request a fresh copy for new shares without changing previews already attached to earlier posts.

Cloudflare's bot directory records two example user agents, both beginning with LinkedInBot/1.0; one identifies a Mozilla-compatible client and the other includes Apache HttpClient. The stable token is LinkedInBot. No verified IP status or signature directory is attached to this entry, and the user agent can be copied. Robots reporting also conflicts: the bot metadata says it is respected, while Cloudflare says it is not.

This traffic affects the presentation of a shared URL on LinkedIn. The record does not connect LinkedInBot to a general search index, AI answer generation, or model training. Allowing the preview fetcher may make a LinkedIn post display correctly, but it should not be described as an AI visibility tactic.

Is LinkedInBot relevant for AI search?

Indirectly. LinkedInBot has no AI product of its own, but its output can end up in the systems that AI answers draw on.

LinkedInBot fetches pages to build link-preview cards. It does not feed an AI index, but it reads the same Open Graph and structured metadata that AI systems parse to understand your pages, so clean preview metadata doubles as AI-friendly metadata.

How to handle LinkedInBot

Keep LinkedInBot able to reach public pages and their preview images if LinkedIn shares matter to the site. When a card is stale, check the page source and image response first, then submit the URL to Post Inspector.

The stable token supports a specific robots.txt group:

The available records disagree about compliance, so treat this as a published preference rather than a guaranteed block. Use a firewall or application rule when denial is required. Login-only pages and private assets should remain protected regardless of the claimed user agent.

Examples

  • A company changes an article's `og:image`, runs the URL through Post Inspector, and sees the new image on later LinkedIn posts.
  • LinkedInBot can load a product page but receives `403` for its preview image, so the resulting share has text but no image.
  • A publisher blocks `LinkedInBot` at the CDN while leaving normal visitors unaffected; LinkedIn members can still post the URL, but LinkedIn cannot build the usual card.
