What is Zoombot?

ZoomBot is SEOZoom's web-wide link crawler. It discovers outbound links, adds them to SEOZoom's link database, and revisits pages to check whether previously found links have changed. Unlike customer-triggered site-audit bots, it can arrive without anyone at the crawled site starting a job.

SEOZoom publishes two request forms: ZoomBot (Linkbot 1.0 http://suite.seozoom.it/bot.html) and an iCrawl SEO Spider variant. The operator says ZoomBot records outbound links and does not store other website information. It also says the crawler does not trigger ads or add visits to Google Analytics.

SEOZoom's bot page says ZoomBot follows robots.txt, but only the Disallow rule. It may not notice a changed file until its next scheduled crawl, and SEOZoom says it can continue its prior behavior when syntax errors prevent the bot from understanding the file. The structured record here leaves compliance unconfirmed, so this remains an operator-stated policy that should be checked in logs.

SEOZoom now sells AI and GEO features, but its official ZoomBot page gives this crawler a backlink-database purpose. It does not say that ZoomBot retrieves pages for AI answers or contributes page content to model training. A visit can affect the link data shown to SEOZoom customers, not a publisher's direct eligibility for an AI citation.

Indirectly relevant

Is Zoombot relevant for AI search?

Indirectly. Zoombot has no AI product of its own, but its output can end up in the systems that AI answers draw on.

Zoombot is an SEO auditing crawler. It has no direct effect on search rankings or AI answers, but the reports it feeds are used to fix crawlability and content issues that do affect how search and AI systems see your site.

How to handle Zoombot

Leave ZoomBot available if inclusion in SEOZoom's link database is useful and the request rate is acceptable. To opt out, use the simple form documented by SEOZoom:

User-agent: ZoomBot
Disallow: /

The operator only claims support for Disallow. Validate the file's syntax and allow time for the next scheduled crawl before judging the result. Since this bot does not independently confirm compliance, compare later requests with the deployment time.

Use a server or edge rule for immediate enforcement. No verified IP range or signed-agent directory is supplied in the record, so the ZoomBot string can classify traffic but cannot authenticate its sender.

Examples

  • A publisher sees the Linkbot variant revisit an article to check the article's previously recorded outbound links.
  • An SEO team leaves ZoomBot allowed because it uses SEOZoom's backlink reports, while rate-limiting unexpectedly dense bursts.
  • A site adds the official disallow rule, fixes a malformed line elsewhere in robots.txt, and checks the next scheduled visit.
