What is Neevabot?

Neevabot built the web index for Neeva's consumer search engine. Its recorded user agent was Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; Neevabot/1.0; +https://neeva.com/neevabot), with Neevabot as the robots token.

This is now a legacy crawler identity. Neeva joined Snowflake in 2023, and the original consumer search product is no longer available at neeva.com. A present-day request using this name should not be assumed to come from an active Neeva search service.

Historical traffic would have consisted of page fetches used to discover and refresh search results. Current traffic needs a more cautious reading: the user-agent can be copied, there is no published signature or IP verification method in this bot, and the former bot information URL is no longer a dependable identity check.

Snowflake acquired Neeva to work on search and generative AI, but that does not establish a data path from the old Neevabot crawler into Snowflake model training. Blocking this legacy token has no documented effect on current AI search visibility or on training by other systems.

Relevant for AI search

Is Neevabot relevant for AI search?

Yes. Neevabot collects pages for an AI product, so what it can crawl influences how AI systems describe your brand.

Neevabot feeds a search index that also powers that engine's AI answer features and overviews. One crawl can serve a classic results page and a generated summary, so blocking it costs you both the rankings you would expect and a growing share of AI answers built on the same index.

How to handle Neevabot

There is little reason to grant a legacy Neevabot identity special access. If it appears in new logs, inspect the source, requested URLs, and rate. Do not allow it through a firewall solely because the user agent contains a once-valid bot name.

You can publish an exclusion for clients that still consult robots.txt:

User-agent: Neevabot
Disallow: /

Robots.txt compliance is not confirmed for this bot, and Neeva no longer maintains the original crawler page. If requests continue after the rule has been fetched, use a server or edge rule for the observed traffic and keep private content authenticated.

Examples

  • An operations team finds a `Neevabot/1.0` request in a 2026 log and flags it for source review instead of treating it as active search indexing.
  • A site keeps a legacy robots rule for `Neevabot` after removing an old Neeva-specific allowlist from its firewall.
  • An AI governance review records the Snowflake acquisition separately and does not count Neevabot traffic as evidence that Snowflake trained on the site.
